What’s the relationship between faith, works, salvation, and regeneration?
The answer is actually pretty simple: we’re saved through faith alone, but true, saving faith will always be accompanied by, and result in, good works. This is because both faith and good works are the result of regeneration, which is where God gives a sinner a new life that replaces the old life.
In John 3:3, Jesus says, “Unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
And in Ephesians 2, verse 5 says that God brings us from death to life, verse 8 says that we’re saved through faith and not by works, and verse 10 says that everyone saved by God will walk in good works. In other words, salvation is completely from God, and everyone saved by God will both have faith and obey God and His teachings in the Bible. Scripture is consistently clear about this.
